W e are constantly developing our menus here at The Ragg and in in conjunction with our customers’ requirements, we have recently started adding more coeliac- friendly and wheat-free items to our menu. We have changed our daily soup to exclude gluten and wheat without changing the good taste. In fact, customers have told us that the soup tastes ‘just as homemade soup should taste’. We also have at least one main course special and a dessert special, gluten-free and wheat-free. daily. The response so far has been very positive and we are shortly to be added to the Irish Coeliac Society list of establishments recommended suitable for Coeliacs. Having constant dietary problems myself, I understand fully the obstacles other people have when dining out and I NEVER mind being queried by any customer on the ingredients in our foods or the suitability of any item for their special needs. Indeed, I welcome such queries as it is from customers that I myself gain most information. Rest assured, when you dine in The Ragg, you will never be regarded as a fussy eater! I almost forgot, we also stock Coeliac Chips & Ice Cream!

We now have our own Coeliac Bread and it is available on the menu and by order for take away. Just ring us the day before and we will make it fresh for you for the next day.

We are hoping to add a few more baking items to our Coeliac List shortly so watch this space!

LATEST NEWS!

We have finally perfected our gluten-free & wheat-free bread which is available daily and can be ordered for take-away.

Our tester is a very severe coeliac and absolutely loves the bread and is recommending it to The Irish Coeliac Society.

The Regional Final was held here last night and was a huge success. The talent was amazing and the adjudicators, Derek from Crystal Swing & Emma O’Driscoll from RTE, had a very hard job in deciding the winners. Finally, Shane Slattery & Gavin Strappe, The Bothran & Banjo Dynamic Duo, representing The Village Inn, Moyglass, deservedly won first prize with a cheque of €1,000. The group, ‘The Beard of Zeus, representing Tess Bourkes in Borrisokane came a great second receiving €500 and our very own Debbie Gleeson came a very deserved third place getting €250. Well done Debbie, you did us proud. A very special thank you to all the contestants and their followers who created a great atmosphere and made the night a great success for everybody attending it. Commiserations to all the other acts who entertained us well.

Gavin & Niall & The Beard of Zeus will now go forward to the All Ireland Final in The Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise on Friday 17th June & we wish them them the very best.

After another successful run this year and with an excellent organising committee now in place, we look forward already to next year’s contest.

We are delighted to be able to tell you that Gavin & Niall came second in the All Ireland Final held in Portlaoise last night.

The following is a letter written to & published by the editor of The Tipperary Star some time ago.

‘Sir, Munster Final Day is special. There is no doubt about that. For those of us making our way from Limerick, the road has little cheer until we come to The Ragg. The Ragg is a traditional stopping-off landmark. Do the people who live there know how lucky they are?

The Ragg Lounge is a most enjoyable experience. It was hard to leave and we had a chance to talk to the locals. The very fine hurling field is just down the road. ‘There are days when you play there and the stand is full and days when you play in the rain in front of nobody at all. But there is a great sense of comradeship’, a chap in his early twenties told us.

Indeed, there seemed to be a great sense of community and comradeship in The Ragg. It is both a picturesque and a friendly place. The land is flat with uninterrupted views over rolling acres. It has real visual charm with well attended flower beds, stretching far along the roadsides. I didn’t have a chance to walk the Golden Mile but, when I enquired, I was told that it was for the community, for relaxation and healthy walks.

It’s hard to leave a place like The Ragg and it is with a sense of emotion I write this letter to the Tipperary Star.

The Ragg is a jewel on a journey to Thurles.’

Michael J Murphy, North Circular Road, Limerick.
